Those spiderweb swirls that show up under a petrol station canopy are not dirt. They are thousands of fine scratches in the clear coat, mostly from automatic car washes and dry wiping, and no wax removes them — a glaze just hides them until it rains.
Correction levels the clear coat with a machine polisher and a graded set of pads and compounds. Paint depth is measured before we start, because clear coat is finite and a shop that polishes without measuring is spending something you cannot get back. Most cars need one stage; heavily oxidised black and red paint sometimes needs two.
